Lente in Calgary/Spring in Calgary

Even een tijdje niets geblogd maar dat betekent niet dat hier niets gebeurt. We "genieten" hier met volle teugen van de lente. In Calgary betekent dat bijna dagelijks wisseling van weer van het ene uiterste naar het andere uiterste. Zo was het zo'n tien dagen geleden 20 graden Celcius gevolg door een dag met een record aan sneeuwval (in ons deel van de stad viel slecht 23 cm, maar in het Noord-Oosten van de stad schijnt wel 40 cm te zijn gevallen. Na de sneeuwval kwam weer goed weer, veel zon, 14-15 graden, en daarna kregen we te maken met wind vanuit het noorden. Je raad het al; temperaturen onder nul met enkele dagen zelf beneden de -10 graden Celcius. En als je net denkt alle sneeuw wel te hebben gehad (de 23 cm was ondertussen gesmolten) dan komt er gewoon weer een nieuw pak: enkele dagen geleden viel er 10 cm. Enfin de voorspelling op het moment zijn dat het in het weekend zonnig en 14 graden Celcius wordt. Ik vind het persoonlijk zeer fraai om de snelle veranderingen te ervaren. Ik hoop alleen wel dat nu het ergste voorbij is want ik heb vandaag de auto een uitgebreide beurt laten gegeven en de all-season banden er weer om laten leggen.


Have not blogged for a while. However, that does not mean that nothing is happening here. We are fully "enjoying" spring. In Calgary that means almost a daily swing in the wheather from one extreme to the other. Ten days ago, for example, we had temperatures near 20 degrees Celcius, followed by a day on which in our part of the City 23 centimers of snow fell. In the NE they say that approximately 40 centimeters fell. After this record snow fall (for the particular day in April in Calgary) we had sunny wheather with temperatures around 14-15 degrees Celcius. Then the wind changed direction and it starting blowing from the North and you guessed it: sub-zero temperatures, with even some days with tempetures in the double digits below zero! Just as you think that you have had all snow for the season, and all snow has melted away, you are surprised by a fresh new pack: a modest 10 centimers fell a few days ago. Predictions are that this weekend it is going to be nice wheather with temperatures around 14 degrees Celcius. Personally, I find it amazing to experience these changes. However, I am wishing for more stable spring and summer wheather especially since I have had the car serviced today and the winter tires have been replaced by all seasons again.
