Wereldbeker schaatsen. Ice speed skating world cup.

Heb je ons zien zitten in de bocht na de finish afgelopen zaterdag? Ik was die idioot die zo'n oranje bouse op een stok rondzwaaide (sommigen van jullie herkennen 'de blouse' natuurlijk gelijk, vandaar dat ik die ook had meegenomen. En net als toen heb ik 'm natuurlijk NIET AAN gedaan!). We moeten toch breeduit op TV gekomen zijn zo op de eerste rij. Het was erg leuk op die tribune, gezellig, we zage dat er dropjes werden uitgedeeld (toch met een canadees accent want ze ztaen in een ziploc bag) en de voertaal was natuurlijk Nederlands. We hebben er mensen gezien die we 'kenden'via wederzijdse weblogs. En natuurlijk enorm gejuicht, Sven Kramer reed heel hard in onze bocht omdat het hem er teveel herrie was (denken wij). Hartstikke leuk om getuige van een wereldrecord te zijn. Ik denk dat we morgen weer gaan, we hebben de smaak te pakken. De tijd voor de echte wedstrijden is ook erg leuk, dan staan al die bekende schaatsers en coaches gewoon pal voor je neus. En dan maar kijken of je iedereen herkent, soms best lastig!


En na het schaatsen naar het centrum: naar de intocht van de kerstman, Santa Claus. Aangezien vandaag in Nederland Sinterklaas ook aangekomen is wel men hier niet achterblijven. Santa komt lekker vroeg om de mensen de donkere dagen door te helpen. Er verschijnen al heeeeel wat lampjes, opblaas-sneeuwmannen met lampjes en anders moois in de tuintjes hier. Nou, die intocht was wel een erg commercieel gebeuren, meer een soort sponsor show. Maar de lichtjes waren mooi en de kerstliedjes stemmig, dus wat wil je nog meer?

Have you seen us on dutch national television? In the curve just behind the finish line? I am talking about the world cup ice speed skating in Calagry last saturday. I was the fool who was waving with the orange blouse on a stick in the air (some of my dutch friend will recognize this blouse! That is why I took this blouse with me, and just as in the other 'blouse' occasion', I, again, did NOT wear the blouse myself!!). We were in the front row, so we must have been on TV. It was very cosy in the stands, dutch liquorish was passed around (also in the canadian way since they were in a ziploc bag) en the leading language in the stands in our corner was definitely dutch. We met people we only 'knew' from our weblogs, which was really nice. And of course we cheered enormously for our ice speed skaters. I guess Sven Kramer was going so fast in that corner because he thought the noise was horrible there.Of course that's why he ended up with a world record on the 5k. That was fun, witnessing a world record. I think we will go again tomorrow, we liked it a lot. The time before the real reaces start is very interesting too, it is a great oppotunity to watch all the famous skaters and coaches. Sometimes you even have a hard time recognizing them!

After the olympic oval we went to center city: Santa Claus is coming to town tonight!In the Netherlands Sinterklaas is arriving in the country today too, that's why Santa had to make his appearnace too. He arrives early (more than a month before the actual christmas is there!), I guess that is to help the people get through the dark cold november and december days. A lot-lot-lot-lot-lot-lot of christmas lights, blow-up snow man with lights in it, and all other kinds of decorations you can think of appear in the gardens and on the houses these days here. The lightning of the christmas tree/lights in the city was full of 'commercials'. But the lights were beautiful and the christmass carrols were nice, what more do you want?
